Patafunk (Carlos Eduardo Martinez Simon-Llanos) is a Venezuelan singer-songwriter, DJ, producer, and multi-instrumentalist.
In 1997 entered into a recording studio for the first time to record 'No Es Mi Guerra' the first song of his band, Skama, 'No Es Mi Guerra' is a fast Latin Ska Song which was featured on the compilation album, 'Venezuela Ska vol 1' edited in Mexico by Pepe Lobo Records.
Skama recorded a few more tracks for other compilations and it was Maracaibo City's opening act for latinoamerican bands like Amigos Invisibles, Aterciopelados, Cafe Tacuba, Control Machete, Molotov, Nortec and others.
In 2003 started his first radio show 'Patafunk Radio' in La Mega de Maracaibo (Venezuela), this show was the flag on the airwaves of a series of big events under the same name that atracted thousends of kids looking for a new alternative in music and sometimes 'a lifestyle'
In 2008, Patafunk released his well-received debut album *Dubdelic*, an eclectic arrangement of music that merges Latin, pop, and disco-funk. The song “Surferston feat. G2,” peaked at #2 on the Venezuelan billboard chart, Record Report, with Rolling Stone Latin America calling *Dubdelic* one of the best albums of the year for its distinctively pleasant, ocean-like sound.
Between 2008 and 2010, while working on his sophomore album *Playa*, Patafunk delivered multiple nation-wide tours throughout his homeland and championed his own radio show on contemporary music. However, Patafunk’s global sensibility and relentless drive for unity of sound was unstoppable. In 2010, he left his tropical coast of Caracas to take-on the international dynamism of the New York City music scene.
In 2011, Patafunk released his sophomore album, *Playa*. Emerging from the soil of his native Venezuela while brought to completion in Brooklyn, the album was featured in the iTunes "new and noteworthy" section. Much of the earlier features of *Dubdelic* remained, but with a bold grasp of hip-hop and house. The song "NegraChinaLatina" reached number one in Venezuelan radio and was featured in MTV Latin America. In 2015, Patafunk released “Free Your Feet,” a 6-track EP that compiled Patafunk’s singles from 2012-2014. The track on the EP entitled, ”Hit & Run! feat DaniBlau,” was also released as part of a nu-disco compilation by French label, New's Lighter Records.
Patafunk’s upbeat global sound has enlivened audiences at shows and festivals around the world, including SXSW, Tribeca Film Festival, CMJ, and Miami Art Basel. While living in Brooklyn, Patafunk has held residencies at various NYC staples like Soho House, Hotel Hugo, Verboten and Le Bain. His latest creation, the album *High Life*, is a testament to Patafunk’s incredible range and genius as an artist. The album fuses his Latin-reggae roots with the best of New York’s multicultural ethos, creating a sound unlike any other. The highly anticipated album from Patafunk is set to release in 2020.
